A new high capacity extrusion system boosts high quality recycled supply and accelerates circular goals
2 Dec 2025

KraussMaffei has launched a high-capacity extrusion platform designed to produce larger volumes of recycled plastics, as manufacturers seek steadier supplies of material to meet rising circularity targets.
The system processes a wide range of polymers, including PET and polyolefins, at higher throughput than earlier models. Industry analysts say the technology could help narrow the gap between rising demand for recycled resin and the limited supply that has constrained producers for years.
A market analyst at Circular Insights Group said the platform offered “a meaningful performance advance for mechanical recycling”, noting its potential to support companies trying to standardise high-volume output. Brands across packaging and consumer goods have set strict recycled content goals, increasing pressure on recyclers to improve consistency and scale.
US plastics groups have argued that modern equipment is necessary to meet national circularity objectives. The US Plastics Pact has said updated infrastructure is central to improving material recovery and preparing for tighter regulatory rules.
Companies investing in circular technologies, including Dow, are expected to benefit from steadier access to high-quality feedstock. Sector advisers say improved supply could strengthen procurement plans and ease cost volatility, though local collection networks remain uneven and recycling rules differ widely across municipalities.
Financing also poses challenges. Smaller recyclers may struggle to fund technology upgrades without long-term supply contracts or partnerships with larger producers. Analysts nonetheless point to growing optimism, citing a combination of policy support and technical improvements.
Industry groups expect further alliances and acquisitions as companies expand their recycling capabilities. The trajectory of such investments over the next several years will influence how quickly the domestic recycling system can scale. Observers say continued innovation could help the US better match demand for recycled materials and advance its circular-economy goals.
